Shafty Tank? was created by Olbeedo
I was thinking of my next build and wondering is the Shafty tank from the 79 or so would mount on either the 76 Z1 F or the 78 KZ LTD without modification??

No go mate sorry, the channel on the ST tank is far to narrow, a Z1r tank on the other hand fits right on.

"beater" in japan does an aluminium replica for about 1500 euro but you can find them used for way less than that from time to time but you have to be ready and willing to jump when the time is right. So are you looking to build a MK2 replica? Im in the middle of doing a 1000st chain conversion right now,  from there its easy enough to get the MK2 look, it will never be a MK2 but it will look close enough. If its a fresh build id look for a Z1 classic, small amount of  work to the subframe and side panel mounts and bodywork set and you have a MK2 replica.

Yes I want to do a replica of sorts but with the Z1R square style body, I looked on Z1 Ent but theirs is the rounded type. I'm planning on using my Z1 F frame and using KZ650 forks with a stretched swinger of course.

Man, I was going to say that this tank is not not worth anywhere near that much.  It's really rusty on the inside, there is a dent on the top, and the emblem mounts are covered over.  I sold two similar Z1R tanks about a year ago for about $200

But then I looked at recent sales on Ebay.  There are two, one with a massive dent, that sold for about the same (475 and 460).  It's shocking what folks will pay for beat up parts.  I guess it's time to sell more Z1R parts....

Things like tanks, cranks, cylinder heads, Specific wheels and the like are getting rarer mate, the Japanese market is sucking it all up and whats left will demand a higher price, there are a few jems still to be found now and again but they are few and far between.
