By old_kaw: ..... The factory "red" is a somewhat ruby red that I tried to have my paint buddy duplicate, but it ended up looking totally black . You can't see the red tint in the paint unless it is in direct sunlight. ....
I had a nos 750-CSR fuel tank in the L.M. Red & I'd say it was a black cherry red >> it looks black in the pic below, but it's dark red. For comparison Kawasaki Luminous Ruby Red is kind of a bright red & there's no mistaking what color it is.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Yep, the tank on the right is what my bike was supposed to look like. (with blue / gold pinstripes) I did find a paint chip under the air cleaner intake warning stickder / rattle can paint that the PO had done to "improve" my bike's appearance. It was a real looker. not.

I gave the painter the paint chip I found, but instead of using the kandy in the paint, he painted it black, then put the wild cherry kandy tint into the clear coat. Not quite as red as I had hoped, yet still a large improvement over the rattle can paint that was on it when I drug / shoved it out of the scrap heap that it was in for over 10 years. Flat tires don't roll so well.

martin_csr wrote: Thanks. It's kinda neat that you can click the little tanks on the right to change the colors to see what other combos were used. I've seen a Kaw triple color chart before but not one that's clickable.

I totally agree with this. I had wondered how many layers KHI used, and this answers in so many ways. This 1975 H1F looks like a brown color to me, yet the link lists it as a "candy yellow" with all of the layered colors. It always looks brown to me. (might be my color blindness)

BTW, this 1975 H1F is still for sale in the Lou for a meger $7995 cash. Only a buck per mile clocked. HERE:

In the parts diagrams the H1-F tank colors are listed as C. Blue & C. Gold. The tank in your pic looks brown or bronze to me, but I guess it could pass for gold. I haven't delved much into the Triples paint or anything, but the process is kind of interesting. From KawTriples.com & PaintWorkz

I would believe the gold over the yellow paint designation. Gold looks more like brown than yellow does by a long-shot. The paint in the paintworkz link looks brown from that angle too (European green / yellow ). He does some awesome OEM looking paint.
That tipples video has some really nice old scoots, I like the music too, just don't like it quite that much. :pinch: (it blasts in the video)
