I know This is an age old question but its's getting cold and the tear downs are coming

I have never been a fan of powdercoating IE: dude hosed me when I was building a 66 Chevelle SS396
cost not quality

but with that said I am getting ready to strip and either paint or powdercoat 2 frames
Paint is easy I can do that myself (with automove grade paint no HVT for me this year
I used vht last year and under the seat didnt last any time and the rest seemed to scratch easily

anyone have comments from experience?

Have you powder coated your frame and road it for a season if so what or any scuffs scratches/

Have you used something other than rattle can and road a season? if so what if any problems scuffs scratches etc...

Have you rattle canned your bike road it a season and what problems if any?

my bike is getting a complete go through as well as my wedding present build the first frame
should arrive next week I hope and mine will start being torne down pretty up all the
welds and coat the frame

I powdered coated everything but the engine. It still scuffs up but the mill or thinkness it goes on is about 15 mill....paint is about 2 mill per coat. If you wax powder coat most of the scratches come out....when my batt was leaking and caused that rear master cyclinder to eat itself....the acid got on the swingarm and didnt do much to it....just took abit of shine off of it is all....some tough stuff. It all comes down to cost...I have a guy that works with me...he did my rear sprocket for $ 10. Frame $ 75 I had him do all my bolt heads, nuts and fasteners. He did my swingarm for $35.....I drop it off....he beads it clean and I get it back to bolt up.....whats your time worth....it a tough call but powder coating worked out for me.

I'm a big fan of powder coat...have done the Z1R and KH500 triple frames and associated bits with it and real impressed with the results and durability of the stuff.

OK if do scratch it...its difficult to touch up,and make sure you get your PC man to block as many orifices as possible.

Heat tape over the vin number,if you have one and I guarantee you'll be a happy man. :P

Cost in Oz to sandblast and PC was around $300.

That's my opinion... ;)

I figure if it can hold up for years on locomotives and everything else the railroad would paint with it it was good enough for me B)

The best part about the paint is if it gets banged up or scratched,or you need to add/weld something to the frame its easy to fix without complets tear down.
Ive had plenty of stuff powder coated in the past also. B)

I'm thinking about having my control housings powder coated this winter. I figure pc will stand up to brake fluid better than paint will, in the vent of a leak or spill during filling.
