RE: 1978 KZ1000 D1 (Z1R)

Help!

It's been so long since I stripped the thing down to start the resto that I forget what the screws on the windshield looked like. I had a bag of 8 marked "windshield" that obviously came from the fairing / windshield because they had the collared nuts attached...The screws looked rusty so I bought NOS and they look very different than what came off the bike.

I suspect that since the bike was crashed a few times and the windshield and fairing replaced at lease once they used the wrong ones.

See attached fotos.

The ones that came off the bike are the ones on the right and they have a lower and larger dome.

The NOS are smaller and stand a bit prouder in addition to being a few mm shorter.

Can someone please post pics of an original windshield and screws?

Hi res if possible?

Thanks!

youd think the ones with the washer around them would help distribute the pressure more evenly around the plastic ;)

I'm really curious where the ones that came off the bike were from? They are a good looking low-dome screw. While not original, they look better IMO

So, the ones on the left are the NOS superseded screws (220CO512)? They look very similar to my OEM fairing screws on my GPz's (same part number as those on your Z1R). They are apparently in short supply (according to Kawasaki) so I need to order some.

I'm really confused now...

I wish someone would post pics of an original Z1R as now I don't know for sure that it came with.

Perhaps mine was repaired and they were replaced with GPZ screws?

The ones on the left are the superseded screws but I spoke to people who had stock of the original NOS and after seeing the pictures I sent them they said they were identical in every way.

I will look over the GPZ fiches next.

i have been thinking on this for a couple hours.

i have never seen the screws that you had on the right(with larger lower dome head)used on a z1r windscreen.
i have always seen the smaller headed screws used.

i will still check and get some pics of the ones i took out of my fairing last year when i replaced my original windscreen after my wreck.

I'll bet they were GPZ screws... The bike was purchesed new from a KAwi dealer in 1978 and repaired there a few times until about 83 or 84... I'll bet they used GPZ screws. They are nice and if I could find them NOS I just might use them.
