Cant speak in regards to humidity but here's what I did on plastic, tank and chromed head light shell with exceptional results. I believe Mark1122 has followed the same guide lines with beautimuss (see his tank) results.

Break down...
Paint then let fully cure (follow directions) 3-5 days.
Wet sand to remove blemishes, particles, paint dust bunnies etc...

Then clear coats (non can 2-3 part)
Let fully cure (follow directions) 24 hours.
Wet sand to remove blemishes, particles, paint dust bunnies etc...
Then wet sand again, add some clear if you chose...
Let fully cure (follow directions) 24 hours.
Wet sand to remove blemishes, particles, paint dust bunnies etc...

Then buff out with rubbing compound!
Add wax and she'll shine just fine....

Here's some others where I got the concept from regarding wet sand between coats...
Tank Prep - Paint

Good luck!

omr.
i used a combo of both on my tank. i started with the good 2 pt urethane stuff. then when i could not get the candy red to match the duplicolor red, i used the duplicolor red over the urethane black silver and clear. then i used the 2 pt urethane clear over top again.
Would u please reframe from posting pics of your bike. My key board keeps getting gooey when ever u do that.

Seriously Mark compared to what you've accomplished on that tank... Shit brother, no comparison...

Speaking of which, where's the final images of that phenominally gorgeous tank... B)

Unfortunately, I don't come on line as much any longer so I obviously missed it... You do a write up on it? link?

Share the knowledge mi amigo....

With 90 degree temps, you're gonna have to spray fast and heavy. (Which means you will have to really really guard against runs.) The paint is going to want to dry in the air if you spray light. That creates a dusty looking finish.

When it's that hot, you have to work fast to cover since one area will dry while your spraying another, and the overspray will not blend.

If you look real close while you are spraying, you can see the paint going on wet or dry. It will have that dull look and you can manipulate your stroke to some degree to get around it. Start on one side and go to other side in one job. Don't start on left side...go to top...and then start on right side and go to top. Keep going from left to right, for example, and look at an angle and you can see how the paint is going on and work the paint spray to get rid of a lot of that dull look.

Well the side covers seem to have come out pretty well. I'm not done with them yet. I want to let the clear coat cure then I hope to hit them with a couple coats of the 2 part clear (when it arrives) then cure again and polish.

They actually look better in person than the photos. The color is duplicolor mazda black mica. So it's mostly black with some colorful metallic flecks in there.

I hope the tank comes out this good. It's got its color coat, but I'm waiting for the 2k clear to arrive before clear coating it. Couldn't wait on the side covers though, I'm impatient and wanted to see what they'd look like with some clear on them.

BTW - Duplicolor top coat, as well as most newer top coats, require a clear coat. So you won't get any sort of shine with just the top coat.

Repainting is very simple as long as you keep it clean and dust free and don't rush things.

If the current paint on your part has good adhesion, no flaking or peeling, then you can just wetsand that finish, dry, tack rag, and apply a primer/sealer coat if your changing the color drastically or you did repair. Wet sand that and tack. Then apply 2-3 coated of top coat, let completely dry and wet sand to 1000-1500 grit. Apply clear coat in 2-3 coats, wet sand to 2000 to knock down any peel, then buff with polish and wax.

This was my tank when I started, good adhesion on the paint but the clear lifted, so I just wet sanded down the clear coat.

Applying top coats in stages, sanding in between

Right before clear was applied, wet sanded with 1500

The clear was applied, wet sanded with 2000, then polished with a wheel and waxed.
