These p[arts are made out of ABS. The best way to Chemically weld them is Methylene Chloride also known as Carbo-Chlor or. It is sold as a commercial adhesive called "Weld-On" You can reinforce the back with Fiber Glass. I work with this stuff all the time. DO NOT USE A "SUPPER GLUE" (Cyanoacrylate)adhesive. It will not last.

Will see if I can find some of that stuff. Have some of the "plastex" on its way and as soon as I get some time, I am going to see how it works. Once I find some of this other stuff, I will try those ideas to see how they work.

This dual-tube two-part product from AutoZone performs works as well or better on plastic than standard JBWeld performs on metal.

It sets up quickly with working time of about one minute after mixed together, and hardens for use in about an hour.

Has a strong odor while mixing and applying.

Have used it on plastic automotive interior door handle parts (where regular JBWeld just broke away from the part) and it has proven to be a very strong repair.

The result is very hard and is not flexible.

Good Fortune! :)

Replace the gromets. They are cheap compared to covers. They will come off easier and won't put as much stress on the tabs.

That is a two part acrylic adhesive once developed for dentures. It is also used to mount plastic fingernails. This adhesive was brought into the auto industry because it was discovered that it holds very well on cured polyester based fiberglass. However it will attack ABS if not used correctly.

That's always a good idea to replace the grommets occasionally but in this case, the cover was cracked when I got them. I do have a couple sets of covers that if this stuff works, then I can save more then just this Z1R cover and hopefully, others can save some time and money while we learn.

Hey Racer, I got my plastex from Illowa cycle in Clinton, the owner lives in the cities and I bet if you called and talked to Brad he would meet you in the quads somewhere and save you the trip to Clinton next time, but I'm bettin you won't need more ( unless you got a lot of broken plastic) for a while.

I just got a kit from Eastwood. Won't be able to do anything for a few days though. Once I get around to messing with it and experimenting, I will try to remember to take some pics. and get back here with some results, good or bad, and see how it goes.

Just seeing this post for the first time. Last year I stood on a side cover and pretty much broke a tab. It was just hanging on by a few mm. I got a thick rubber sanding block and cut and shaped a piece out of it which would act as a good solid support and then I used PC7 Epoxy (Home Depot)both as a glue and as covering for the rubber, Looks ugly as hell but can only be seen when the cover is taken off. The whole construction is solid as a rock
