Z1 Side Cover Modification for Pods was created by marcuch
I just removed the original air box and installed Emgo pod air filters that are cone shaped. The problem is that the side covers hit the air pod attached to the outside carbs, before they are seated in their rubber grommets. The only option I see is to grind the plastic side covers so they do not touch the pods (I hate this option). Any other options? If someone has a picture of what they have done that would be great! Thanks

sets turn up that folks trimmed for pods back in the day and sell super cheap because they are ruined...i see em on ebay....what yr and cc..Z1 covers with cut outs turn up a few times a yr...if you have the stock box ..install a K&N element filter and run the box it is better than almost any airbox these bikes ever came with

Been there done that guys. I need a change. I know it's crazy but I like the look and sound. The bike is a 75 Z1-B (900cc). One side cover is broken already. The bottom "plug" (not sure what it's called) on the side pod is gone. The other is in great shape. I'm thinking of finding an old pair or an after market pair on ebay to modify. Sounds like there is no other option.

maier plastics make replacement covers cheap but you have drill them and install so 1/4 anchors in the stock holes thats the way i'd go rather then mess up a set of stock covers, i think you can get them through lockhart phillips, also beasly fibreglass builds them so that gives you some options.

Mod the plastic and you will most likely regret that down the road...

Get different pods.... If you truly have to do some mods to the plastic junk those/sell them whatever. Other pods options are available.

If another set of pods is the answer for ya, Spend the extra moola on good pods... ~$125 for K&N or similar well designed, free flowing quality pods that fit with no modification requirements to your plastic are available....

I got my Dynoman Performance Air Filters (Ovall shape pods) ~ $90 @ DYNOMAN PERFORMANCE AIR FILTERS

No issues what so ever...

Thanks guys all good suggestions. I checked out the Dynoman air pods before buying the ones i have. They look exactly like the ones I've installed. I have no problem spending $100 on filters if they fit without needing any modifications to the plastic. The $100 is a rounding error in all the money I've spent on this bike!

Maybe the site is showing me the wrong picture, but here's the picture DYNOMAN #DP-107 filter. Like I said they look just like mine. Could you send a picture of how they fit on you bike?

I also plan to drill a hole in the mounts to wire the side covers onto the bike. Thanks again
