tank bashed, kickstand broken, handlebars...

What a way to ring in the new year, found my bike propped up against a pole. Looks like it fell hard on the curb I had left it near. I can't explain it.

The kickstand has been torn from the frame. Is it possible that was the cause? - And moreover, safe to just weld it back on? I don't see any rust, it looks like a clean shear. I have access to a MIG welder and a little experience.

Next question, the fuel tank. Can I hammer that out and repaint?

If it needs to be replaced, does anybody have experience swapping fuel tanks? I know the spectre's was pretty specific, and part codes between the 82 and 83 don't match up. I have a 82 kz750n1, aka kz750 spectre. If there are any resources I could use to figure this out, let me know.

The handlebars I will just swap out, and the crunched exhaust pipe doesn't appear to be leaking, so I'll count it as a battle scar.

Hope everyone's new year is going much better!

never seen that much damage from a broken stand..someone hit the bike imo...yes the stand can be welded back...bars are cheap and you may be able to score a clean tank for the same price as a re-paint...sorry about that bro...i think it smells fishy...i tipped my bike over today and the engine propped it up...no damage

+1

That sucks man. This just re-enforces my paranoia about leaving my bike where I can't see it.

A car backing into it, even slowly, can do a lot of damage.

When my buddy's Honda was backed into, the kickstand was bent in a "U" shape, so yeah, the kickstand takes a lot of the damage when the bike is hit from the right side while parked.

That sucks. Hope you can get it fixed soon.

yup, same deal. Prked in an alley, not thinking, behind an suv/mini-van. When I came back, the only evidence was from my helmet on the helmet hook being smeared across the asphalt.(a streak of silver) The sidestand has not been the same since...of course the same bike got clobbered by a huge maple tree in a windstorm the same summer...

Thanks for the support guys. It's good to hear that my bike didn't commit suicide, a drunk cager probably tried to kill it. Downtown on a Saturday night is a bad place to be.

Any more advice about the tank? Other models I can swap from, or worth fixing? I will probably have to repaint either way, bike's color is not factory.
