The Marine Clean product from www.por15.com/ will clean out the gunk and not harm the paint if washed off immediately.

Murphys corollary: Wrenching is the result of time spent riding.

Steel BB's. Seal in tank. Stuff tank into clothes dryer with blankets and towels. Couple of cycles on the NO HEAT setting and changing the position of the tank a couple of times does a great job. Plus you can use a magnet to get onery BB's out. Do it on the sly because divorce isn't cheap!

White vinegar to cut the flash rust or seam gunk.

I filled mine half way up with Greased Lightning and about 100 1/4 inch nuts. Shake it every few days and rinse it out after a few weeks. Wont hurt the paint if you wipe it right off but wear gloves & eye protection, its some stout stuff. After rising with water put a few bottles of alcohol in it to flush it out then coat with some Marvel Mystery Oil if you dont use ir right away. Then I put a bunch of magnets in the tank and a fuel filter on it
