Kawasaki z1 paint ?

I bought a 74 Z1 and it was repainted blue it came with a spare 73 z1 tail section with good factory paint,I need to know if the 73 and 74 brown are the same so I can use the tail section for a paint match.This is my first Z1 I have several triples.

Nice H2 by the way. I had a blue '72 back in the mid 80's. Stripped and chopped it into a dragbike. Seemed like a good idea at the time :blush: .

The 73 and 74 colors were slightly different, and like the 2 strokes they are Candy colors. Both the 73 and 74 Z1's are Candytone orange top coats over Silver flake mid coats. The 73 used a black base coat and the 74 used a dark brown base coat. They still are close enough that the the 73 tail would be Ok to use for a 74 color match, since it is imposible to get it dead on since the type of mid coat flake that Kawasaki used back then is no longer produced. In fact the last batches of 73 painted body parts that Kawasaki sold were done in a brown base coat just to get the color close with what every mid coat flake they were using.

You can say that again!! That bike looks like it has zero miles on it and just came out of the crate. Jim, how about some details on that H2?

That is a beauty. Can't help you with paint, as I never paint. The 73 is the nicest looking H2.

Ive owned both, the 73 brown has orange flakes in it and the 74 has yellow flakes in it. They wont even look close on the same bike in my opinion

MT, The 74 brown you are referring to is actually what Kawasaki calls Green with yellow stripes, I think Jim is talking about the 74 Brown with orange stripes.

My 74 I bought new is the color you show in the picture with the yellow stripe. My 73 original paint Z1 I own now is the root beer & orange color. I just found a picture of the 74 color youre talking about, Ive never seen an actual bike that color and didnt even realise they made it. I stand corrected and I certainly dont claim to be an expert by any means
