freshening up black plastic parts was created by babyELR
Anyone looking to make those black plastic parts i.e. rear fenders, chain guards an such, I found that after a good cleaning and prep, bumper black paint makes them look brand new. It has the right finish and color as stock new pieces.

1978 Z1-R
1982 KZ-550, 615 kit, cams, head-work

That sounds like a good solution to plastic parts that are pretty far gone...actually, I have had fair success resurrecting plastic parts that have sun damage (switch blocks, fenders, chain guards, etc.) by rubbing them down with liberal amounts of ArmorAll...black sheen restored that only periodically must be reapplied.:)

The rear under fender on a shafty is black plastic. Armor All just won't make it pretty. I tried... Armor All just evaporates in a day or two... The bumper plastic is likely a good idea. I also think Krylon makes a paint for plastic and I think that is what I used. I did use flat and wish I had used semi-gloss but it has held up well.

I also tried the Krylon spray can paint for plastic but it was the semi-gloss. Used it on my Air Box, Chain Guard and Rear Fender.

Darn, got just about like new results. That's 3 seasons ago and the finish is still very good.

This is the only brand I have tried or seen locally so I don't know about any others.

Bought a faded out plastic rear fender for my 750E last year. I don't like to paint plastic if I can help it. Ended up buffing it out w/ very fine steel wool followed by waxing it and bingo! nice glossy fender black fender!

Ive heard putting a thin layer of vaseline on for a while will bring the black back. I have yet to try it.

My brother once showed up at my house completely nekkid. He was riding his Gold Wing standard. He said his wife was waiting down the road. Now I lived about 10 miles away and they were well used roads and it was at night, I cracked up. I do wish his wife had come all the way with him. She was a real looker. Turned out he said she would never do it and she said "lets go!". You didn't say that to his wife. Any of them! :woohoo:

I used Dupli-color bumper coating. It comes out semi-gloss. I prepped with fine steel wool and wiped down with wax and grease remover. Looks awsome. Tried the whole armor all thing, it just doesn't last but a few days.
