Larry, check eBay for a new one. Know the how tall the one is you want. It is possible to cut them down with a template and router with a bearing bit. But this requires a decent amount of woodworking skill. Also Vetter has a web sight and they sell new windshields, screws, edging, etc. Do a Google search for their site. Good Luck!B)

so it sounds like it would be a bad idea to cut down the windshield with a saber saw huh?

I want to cut mine down a little. I can't quite see over the top.

IowaKZ, I suppose a saber saw would work but it will leave a pretty ruff edge and you have the posibility of leaving chips on the edge that would be a pain to sand down. A router with a pattern bit and bearing end works pretty good. You'll need to make a template and secure it with double sided carpet tape so it won't move. Either way it's a good idea to protect the windshield with some tape so your tool won't leave any scratches in your new/old windshield. It goes without saying that's it's easiest to do this with the windshield off the bike. The easiest way to make a template is to use some 1/4 or 5/16 hardboard, trace the original profile, cut that out with a bandsaw, sand to the exact profile and then route.

Yes, I need to buy a new one. Mine is scratched and pretty old. Plus, I want one with vents.

I just haven't put out the money yet.

I have also seen them on ebay for a little cheaper, but they say they are factory blems. I get a little concerned about this. Sometime a blemish is something only a trained eye can see, but I would hate to get it and then have a big distortion in the middle.

I thought about cutting it down really far and seeing how that would look, but I have not done anything yet (obviously).

Have used both styles. Don't remember the vents helping much with air circulation but do remember them gradually getting loose and then noisy from vibration, and allowing a little water to pass through even when supposedly closed. Also ventless was easier to wipe clean.

Just my $.02 FYI :P

I beleve the new ones sold at the Vetter site are made of lexan the older ones were made of Lucite acrylic. They say lexan will hold up better to scratches and is fade resisitant (non-yellowing). Occasionally you will see a NOS Vetter fairing that are not blemished come up on eBay. I too would be a little hesitant to get a blemished one is you can't inspect it first hand.

You can still get them through Vetter and Dennis Kirk among outher places.

And those pop out vents....when it's 95 degrees they do help, but once they get worn or cracked they do vibrate.

I have one that is loose and the harmonics between the engine and that pop out vent seems to be right at 4K RPMS! Drives me nuts.

I bought an old used shield in fairly decent shape that I'm going to cut a few inches off of (cause I'm short).

If your interested in cutting one down, GOOGLE it. There are some pretty detailed DIY's out there.

When first riding after installing Vetter Windjammer, may likely notice magnified engine noises before getting accustomed to the extra mechanical sounds. :)

Dennis Kirk has replacement windshields for Vetter
Windjammers, both vented and non-vented. Comes with
new mounting screw set. Check the Metric Bikes
catalog. According to the Vetter website, windshields
will fit any Windjammer fairing. I've got a Vetter
Vindicator fairing on my '78 KZ650-B2 (separate turn
signals) and the Dinnis Kirk windshield fit just fine.

You can also get replacement moldings, weatherstripping,
and replacement well nuts for mounting lowers directly
from the Vetter website.

I figure I would add my post to this thread...

I need replacement turn signals for my Vetter Windjammer. Does anyone know where I can find replacement parts?

Thanks.
