cleaning up the tail??

i was wondering if someone has done this or seen this done - mounting a small tail light and signal light set behind the seat on top of the tail fairing, and taking off the chrome rear fender to clean the back end up and get a more cafe/racer look...

I did it like this. Removed chrome fender. Sourced a tail light and turn signals. Fabbed a (hideous but hidden) sheet metal shield under the fender. Fabbed a tail light/plate bracket. Voila. Was not hard, but finding the right light took awhile.

onkelB's is fabulous...
mine would end up more like elseed's - more similar body and mine is black... man, that is kick ass... never seen it before, but it's been in my head, i finally have a picture of what I want to do... i about had a heart attack... know that feeling when you've been thinking about something for a year and it slaps you in the face? hehe, i'm rambling...
where did you get the lights???
what did you do with your swingarm? i already plan on putting mag rims with discs, and getting taller shocks - how tall are those shocks eye to eye?

You gotta watch out for that swingarm business, start wading into some heavy stuff there.
Like Onkel, I switched out swingarm, shocks, rear wheel, and brakes "while I was at it". Whole 'nother topic there... Onkel's rims are cool, I think.
I found the tail light and signals at www.americanclassix.com Expensive, but am satisfied with the results. No affiliation, etc.
One wisdom point: in fabbing all my own mounts for signals, lights, guages, etc., I have learned the value of the stock rubber mounts. I have suffered numerous bulb failures due to vibrations from my lightly-rubber-mounted choices. Don't overlook this. I tended to use little Ace hardware rubber washers and such -- found I need about twice that dampening power.

Hey, thanks for the nice words - actually Elseed´s bike was one of the bikes that inspired me, always thought it looked great.
My tail light is an Emgo dual taillight/license plate holder (first pic), think it cost around $35. When I found the oval light I just modded the plate to make it fit. The blinkers are just some cheap ones for a scooter, they´re like $ 10 for a set - they don´t last forever, but are cheap to replace. I fabbed a couple of alu blinker mount brackets (middle pic) that bolts to the backing plate - I wanted the blinkers out of the way so I could use throw-over bags. The assy sits on a bracket (not pictured) I made that bolts to the original fender mounts. No special tools required, just a jigsaw with a finetooth blade, couple of files and a drill.

they have the cateye for 29$ , a dual bulb cateye for 52 if you want to eliminate the rear turn signals. or for style they have one with a skull for 39
