Braided brake lines?

The thought of cutting them with a hacksaw sent a chill down my spine. I've cut wirebraided hydraulic hose in the past and it was not fun nor pretty and not without incident. :pinch: I could have borrowed a chop saw, but would it be the right blade, etc.? I believe they sell by the foot and not less, if I understand their site correctly (makes sense), so I'd wind up with about 9" of excess. That made no sense to me.

Ron, the economics of going back to OEM lines, besides their limited life span (mine are nearly 28 years old each!), just wasn't there. From Ron Ayers Motorsports (the cheapest OEM parts source I've found) the two lines total about $141 and then one still needs crush washers and maybe bolts. I agree that if 100% OEM is desired, that's the only way to go. I felt I could compromise based on cost and the fact I'm getting a life-time set of brake lines for less money.

I spent the better part of two weeks working through the various options and all things considered, I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Be sure if you get lines and measure your old ones to go by to measure the entire hose from end to end including the banjo fittings. I assumed the measurement would be done from the hole in each banjo, which is wrong. You'll get lines too short if you measure this way. I had braided for a while on my KZ1000 and really didn't see any advantage too them and being a stock kind of guy, I went back stock. All my lines are original from 77-80. Surprise, surprise. :)

Another shocker from Ron! :P

Down at the caliper:

Nate your front axel looks to be deep in the threaded fork holder. I had this a while ago and wondered if yours was out on the otherside. Mine was. Like it was unscrewing. I didn't want to steal a thread but the picture caught me by surprise.

You're right, Gris, it is, errr was. Right now the front wheel is off as I'm replacing the fork seals. Once I loosened the axle clamp bolts I took my two big wrenches to break it apart and it was only about finger tight!

It will be much better when it goes together. Another good reason to thoroughly go through a bike with an unknown service history.
