I've got a KZ440 (G1 I believe). Anyway, the frame is the same shape as this image below.

I'm trying to work out how to design the seat for a brat style bike. I quite like these bikes and seat styles but can't see how I can make it fit with my frame.

I am 6'4 so I don't mind the seat being stepped up a bit (more area to house battery, better riding position for me) but only if it fits with the overall look of the bike.

I'm just after some advice from you guys on what you think, and how I might be able to achieve it.

EDIT: I must add I'm not willing to cut the frame, except to detab it - I don't want to modify the frame for a seat to fit, I want to use the frame as it is now.

Thanks in anticipation.

EDIT 2: This one looks similar to my frame.

I like the second one with the #44. I'm partial to the duck bill and it gives you a spot to tuck away a small battery and electronics

So do I, I think it looks really smart. The issue with it is my frame would look something like the red line in this attachment when overlaid on to that bike.

I'm just not sure how I'm going to achieve something like that on this sort of frame.

As I'm reaching the end of my '79/650 project bike, the seat comes into question. I have a very good condition stock 2 hump seat on the bike. Initially I hated it, but man is it comfortable. Many of the cafe seats look great but feel uncomfortable after a 5 minute ride, so you may want to take that into consideration. I will however swap out my seat for a flat '76, '77.

You could do something like this but it would give it more of a flat tracker look

Thanks, deffo want to keep it with the brat styling though (which something like that 650 doesn't in the slightest hehe) - not worried about comfort, just style.

And thanks Nickleo373, that would sort of fit and give some space for battery & wiring. I took some pictures of my bike last night so will be drawing various ideas on them today. Will post up when I have something to show.

I think I've decided what I'm to do. I'm going to buy some sheet alloy and make a flat seat.

It leaves no room for battery etc, but then I'm going to cut the current cradle out and fix in my own made from alloy bars to make it look smarter.

Do you plan on riding much? I bet those flat seats are a pain in the you-know-what. :)

In case you change your mind, I'll go ahead & mention the ZR1100 Zephyr .

Yeah, I bet they're not comfortable for anything more than a short blast. But it's not my intention to ride it for more than that (I have other bikes for that ;) ). Style over substance is the way I'm wanting to go on this project.

As a designer I have to say something here. I will applaud all efforts to improve and create good design and believe you have some good intentions for your project. However the idea that design and practicality are not on your list makes me think. If anything else you have a challenge to come up with a well designed seat that also feels good and for the sake of the awesome bike you are making... It wants to be on the road. Now if you are looking to build a museum piece then the sky is the limit. Why even bother putting a seat on it, just wrap the exhaust over top and call it art.

I say all this in a light hearted manner, if you knew me well you would probably be laughing hard about now. Just think about it more and perhaps get some good materials, especially the padding, that will make your seat amazing both to look at and sit on.
