Guys, Here's another option I think is doable ? Mounting a later Kawasaki Rear Master Cylinder with remote fluid reservoir. This ones from a 91' KZ1000 Police. At least K&L has a rebuilt kit available.

What research I came up with is that the mounting bolts (2) that mount the master cylinder to the frame appear to smaller and shorter? That shouldn't be too hard to overcome, as long as the bolt center to center spacing is the same

And the Brake Rod is different, but maybe I might be able to use mine of my 77'?

I'm hoping that some of you on this Forum has used this set-up and can provide some input. I wouldn't have this problem if there was a rebuild kit for the earlier Master Cylinders.

Have you tried taking it apart & cleaning the parts in fresh brake fluid, & replacing the rubber o rings with new ones, as long as the plunger is O K, & the housing isn't scored, you should be good to go

I agree! Take is apart, clean it carefully, and see what parts (if any) you need to replace. If you can't find the part needed post a question here and someone may be able to find or provide a replacement part. Ed

Thanks Ed and Pete, but I've taken it apart again. Thoroughly cleaned everything again. Inspected rubber primary cup and piston. All look good? That's why I'm fielding another question about looking into a replacement Master Cylinder that I can modify a little to work.

Finding a master that don't have a pitted bore is a real challenge. I bought several bad masters for my 750 before getting lucky and sourcing one from a friend. There are places that will bore them for you and install a stainless sleeve for about $100. I was almost about to go this route when my friend saved me.

My 1977 KZ650 needs to have the rear master cylinder replaced.
The mechanic said he could use one of similar dimensions.
Will look for either GSXR600 or YZF600 as shown here.

Thanks. This is helpful.
If anyone has any thoughts . . .

If I was inclined to replace my Rear master I would probably go with a later Kawasaki Master with remote reservoir as pictures above. Shouldn't be a big deal to fabricate a mount for the the remote reservoir and modify the pushrod. At least they have a rebuilt kit thru K&L.

Even though I was able to get my Stock master to work. I went ahead an ordered a universal "Chinese" rear master just to see if I could mask that work. As soon as I receive it, I'll report back to let the Forum members to let them know how it worked.
