Fork oil...

So i had forks with shit seals and sone with pitted sliders, did surgery to get a good set now i am wondering if i can use motor oil in place of shock oil just cause im so poor i cant pay attention

Or transmission fluid if you are not very heavy or ride alone.

IMHO, 30 motor oil will be way too stiff. I remember mixing motor oil 50-50 with fork oil to firm it up and it was way too stiff.

I put the 30 in and its glorious. Nice and stiff but still dampens the gut shakers

Don't know if equally applicable to LTD, but here's what the FSM says about 1978 KZ1000-A2:
After changing oil, pump forks several times to expel air.
SAE 10W20; apx 160 cc when changing, or 180~188 cc when dry.
420 mm (16.5") level measured from top of inner tube.
Don't over fill.

My clymer said about the same except 4.5 ozs they feel right as ill pick up 20 lbs soon and i like a stiff responsive ride. It its too harsh ill change it but i needed something asap

Ive always liked my suspension practically solid for good feel of what the bikes doing and response
