I've been using the Metzler Lasertecs for about three years now on my '78 LTD with good results. While I don't ride in the rain unless caught in it, they have worked well for me. I still use tubes if that matters to you.

Might want to look into the shinko's they are a cheap tire that's pretty sticky. you can actually buy a set for the about the price of one of those dunlops. I decided personally my kaw will just get a new set of tires every year. i mean why not when you can replace the set for like 130... that is if you decide to go with a more aggressive sticky tire

The high mileage tires have a harder compound which is good for mileage but the hard compound makes wet weather riding like ridding on ice, very slippery in my opinion. It is hard to find one that is all around great. The sticky tires wear quick but have excellent traction, The hard tires last longer but the traction is compromised.

I was wondering about those shinkos. I hopped on my bike for a 1,200 mile trip from ABQ to Iowa on what I'll just call 'street slicks' and I need to replace them before I head back to NM - and I'm on a bit of a budget. my '83 kz1100 is fast but I'm not interested in track days, and obviously I ride (2nd trip of 1,000 miles or more this year).
If anyone has those shinkos I'd like to know how they hold up to long trips and mileage when ridden on the interstate/hwy. They'll be replacing a very old set of dunlop harley-branded cruisers which have held up to literally no tred left and I cruise at or above triple digits on the long trips.

I honestly don't know how fast I was going, officer; My speedo tops out at 85...
