fzr or katana front end
02 May 2012 12:50
the motors in and I was hoping to do a front and rear end conversion I have an 88 fzr 1000 parts bike as well as a 96 katana 750 .I am not really sure which way to go here but thought someone may have some input on which would be the better swap. Its a z1 with 1075 kit ,ported head ,z5 cams and 29 smoothbores.sounds killer. My buddy Mitch Howe did the motor and Mike Law from raceworks did the boring, any input would be surely appreciated, here is a pic..

nice.
either front end would work.the fzr may be closer right outta the box tho.because it was probably closer in weight than the kat.
here is a pic of a kz we done a front end conversion using a 700 katana front end.

i swapped the kz stem in to the katana triple.
i believe steel said that you can do a bearing swap.
i am a fan of the stem swap so that you just buy stock replacement bearings, races and seals and you don't have to remember what goofy bearings you used to make your schtuff work.

I did the 2000 Katana 750 swap using conversion bearings on a 1980 KZ750E, and it's probaly the same as your 700.
My lathe only cuts SAE threads, not metric, so I have been doing the conversion bearing swap. I have a set of metric transposing gears and the required banjo on order and they should be done the end of this month, so maybe I'll start making stems for my projects
