Making rubber parts
12 Feb 2012 21:16
I'm not crazy,
I know that most of the off the shelf rubber parts are better and cheaper than I can make them for .
But some things like the foam cushion under the gauges and the bumper on my kick stand are not available through Z1 E.
What do you guys use for these things or other hard to find parts ?

Gauges use this rubber foam padding. Any Industrial supply source has it.
Any big factory, parts room, etc.
I might have a kick stand rubber, if these are correct.
My stash, soaking in "WellWorths" "Dazzle" product. Similar to armor all.
Great stuff for restoring!

I can't remember, the last stock 4 into 4 exhaust system I had was in 1978. Before I cut the pipes in half to go drag racing.
That exhaust rubber bumper might have been square or rectangular???
True purists let us know please.

Don't just automatically assume that Z1E doesn't stock your part because it isn't listed on the website. Those guys are masters at tracking down parts, and they will order OEM parts if necessary or point you to another supplier if they cannot get it. It's worth a phone call. That's what I always do.

The mainstand bumper (see part #25 in drawing) is listed as still an "Active" part on Kawasaki.com so any dealer can order it for you. Ronayers.com shows the price as $2.08. Ed

Cool Ed .
I did ask Z1 about the gauge cushion , they don't carry it.
I'll hunt down some of that foam rubber.
Thanks everybody.

For the cushion you may be able to cut some from a cheap thin mouse pad. As long as it is closed cell foam (so it won't absorb water) it should work ok.

I went shopping today and found a kitchen floor mat that was about 1/4 to 5/16 " thick and made of a compressible neoprene type material with a lovely floral pattern on a PVC type skin.
Unfortunately it was made in a country I try not to support, but I'm on the right track.
