you have to do a steering stem swap to convert the front end over to be able to use it for the kz(pm me if you need someon to do it for you).the swingarm should fit with just some washers for spacers, you will have to build some shock mounts and weld them to the swingarm.if you are going to dual shock it you can cut some of the crap off the front of the arm where the mono linkage and stuff is.if you wanted to mono it the tuna mono shock would not be my choice.i would get the shock and linkage off of a gsxr and mod it to fit.

I have a 750 katana, their good bikes, comfortable, and have a good ride, plus it is a fairly heavy bike so you might be in luck on swapin parts.

Are you sure you can't just use conversion bearings to install the Katana stem in the KZ frame?

I know bearings are all that is required to install a 2000 Katana front end on a 750 twin and 750 four.

sure?no.
didn't even check,i like to be able to buy off the shelf parts that fit the machine they are supposed to fit as far as year make and model.
the bearing houses around here are not that helpful.
if the stem will use the stock kz bearings you just call up z1e and order the bearings and your done,no wierd numbers,no bs,nothing special to remember.

by any chance were you able to figure out the front end swap and whether you can just do bearing swaps or if you needed to swap the steering stem as well? im about to do a similar front and rear end conversion with a 1993 gsx600f and an 80 kz1000

Go to "All Balls" their site is great to see what front ends will swap over and they'll even get you the correct bearings and races for the swap. I put a 1987 Suzuki 450 front end on a 71 Honda CB350. The swap was easy until I needed a disc wheel to fit, then the fork width was too narrow, then I had to get wider triples, then I had to get a different disc, then I had to... oh you get the point. It's never really easy. Especially going from one make to another. Take lot's of measurements, and make sure it's safe. If the front end fails make sure your insurance is up to date.

I am hopeful he learned from this forum that you simply do not cut up an all original 1973 Z1 any more than you would put a Boss 302 Ford motor (a very nice motor) in an all original fuel injected 1957 Corvette. Ed

Agreed, my point was the original poster was going to de-value his all original first-year Z1. Ed

I remember this thread. I still believe that this person was trolling. Notice that the start of this thread was his one and only post. It seems that we went through a rash of these about that time. Maybe the boys over a GSResources or CB1100F thought they would have a laugh at our expense.

Either that or he decided to go ahead with his original plan and didn't want to hear the criticism from the rivet counters.
