Need a new key, can someone help?

25 Oct 2010 18:05
#409046
Hi guys,

my bike was stolen from my buddy's garage (key was in ignition, yes I rang him a new a-hole)

Anyway the bike was recovered yesterday and now I have no key. I removed the ignition, but local locksmiths want 50-100 for a new key.

Anyone know a place online I can get one for say...10 or 20 bucks?

I can buy a new ignition and key for 40 but I would ike a key to open the seat and helmet locks, too.

Thanks

You could look for used ones which should be cheaper than new.

Look carefully at the locks. If yours is like the KZ650 there will be a number stamped next to the keyhole on at least one of the locks (KZ650 has a 3 didgit 8xx number). You often can find original keys with the correct number right on eBay for about $12. They work; I bought 2 spares that way. Ed

I might be wrong, but looking at Kawasaki.com it appears that the KZ550 keys weren't sold precut like the KZ650; but the key blanks are still listed as "active." I wonder if you took that lock number to a dealer if they could cut or order a key for your lock? Worth giving them a call. Ed

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHere's a key blank listed on ebay.

Thinking KZR member rstnick is a locksmith and has posted lots of valuable information about replacing keys, etc. :cheer:

And believe there's at least one other locksmith that has also posted, but I can't remember who. :(

Could also try the Search Forum function.

Good Fortune!

I am a Locksmith, and can cut them by the code #.
That 6 digit # doesn't sound like the code # though.
I had/have a list somewhere of the different key # series, but can't find it at the moment.
I'd have a work on the computer.
Looking for the list here as I've posted in the past...

Found the list of key code numbers in another post.
Anyone looking for keys should look for a # in one of these series:

170-174
175-195
176K-250K
251K-325K
3101-3150
3201-3250
326K-400K
401-470
701-720
706-710
751-795
8001-9000
801-845
901-925
