I lot of the time I run with just the rack and trunk. That's why I had them on the softest setting, till I packed up and got riding on some cattle guards and rail crossings where it bottomed with the extra weight. Click up one notch and good to go, until I load more on. The rack, trunk, and Vetter brackets are there for now. I like having the trunk for going around town. The side bags only go on for over-nite trips. The fairing also stays, i personally like it. while I know a lot of you guys hate it. To each his own.

Thanks for posting this- I was looking at other shocks ("Swedish Gold") in lieu of Progressive shocks, but you've just sold a pair!

Can you give a quick estimate on the weight on your tail?

I have an Anton Sportpac that I just got and in the process of fixing up ( kzrider.com/forum/13-bike-related/463633...=20&start=40#464712- it's the link). I figure there will be 50-60 pounds in there when it's all said and done.

I have had, with the stock shocks, about an additional 75lbs or so. This was last year when I went to Seattle and back to Colorado. That was to much for those to handle, so I bought these last fall. Well here the weather changes a lot a quick, I only got some short rides in till this last week. Since I was only going around Colorado and a bit of Utah, I packed lighter. Nothing like you will be doing. Although I have done 10 Alcan trips, all in a cage, winter and summer, just once on the Cassiar. I can see where you will need some extra springs back there.
So far I would say with these springs, I have carried about 60lbs. Me I'm 185 or so. And each day before setting to camp, I pick up the nights supplies, Beer/ Food/ Drinks approx 10lbs additional.
Looked at your threads, have you decided on a windshield/ Fairing yet? The bike needs some weight up front to help balance out the load. I put tools and rain gear in my Vetter pockets, plus the easy access stuff like camera and cell.

I'm still looking for a windscreen/fairing- I'm hoping to get that buttoned down by this time next week.

Sweet, I'll rock with the 105/150 lb springs. I emailed Progressive to see what they recommend, they said to get the heavy duty springs. Did you have the HD springs? I don't know what is HD about them, maybe a thicker spring coil?

Yes those are the HD springs. Which is what is recommended for the bike with touring gear mounted, or 2 up.

Sweet. I thought about getting one of those "roll-up" bags to hold my tools- you've probably seen them before, its a bag (shaped like a cylinder) that mounts between your forks. Harley guys have them most frequently I'd say.

Have you been on the Leatherup site? www.leatherup.com/?gclid=CI7bjt6RoqoCFYsbQgod6ma6XA
They have a lot of gear, but not much for parts. Prices and service are excellent.

Right now I have a Bridgestone Spitfire 130-series rear (and Spitfire front). I ran a 120-series Spitfire right before this one, I'm going back to the 120 since it is a slightly taller tire. Also, I'm going up a tooth in the front- 16t, 35t rear. Nice RK 630 x-ring chain.

You will love the gear change out on the road. I can still start out from a stop with only minor clutch slipping, then 4200RPM @65= around 50mpg. I can crank it to 85 in second gear if I want, but I can also roll 1/2 throttle and get to over 100 pretty quick when going around semi's.
just ordered a Tour Master Shinko like I put in my question post today. No one answered and I need another tire for the rest of the summer.

I HIGHLY recommend Spitfires, especially for touring. If you were running an 1105 with cams, I'd suggest something stickier, but for heavy touring, you can't beat Spitfires.
