Brake Torque Link
12 Aug 2010 11:35 - 12 Aug 2010 11:37
I just got the beast to fire up and run but now I need to take care of this detail before I can ride it. The owner had someone put a GS 1100 swingarm on it 27 years ago. They didnt finish up though.. Now the torque link is dangling leaving me with no rear brakes.
Here's the linkage
From under the swingarm
Here's the GS mount:
If I try to mount the torque link to the GS mount, it's dangerously close to the rear tire but could work temporarily. i'm thinking one of my better options is to have a bracket welded to the bottom of the swingarm.. Does anyone have a suggestion? Previous solutions?
Cheers,
Kyle

That whole setup just looks scary to me. If you must, I'd suggest having a good strong double sided tab welded to the bottom of that swing arm. I don't suppose the PO still has the original swing arm kicking around that you could get your paws on?

Nah there's no way i'd get the original swingarm. I've heard this is a common mod so I figured there would be a lot of examples.

Yeah weld away. Bottom looks fine, I'd go there.

you are either going to have to have a tab welded on or use some nutserts and bolt a bracket on.

the nutserts might be the easiest way to "do-it yourself".

If it were me, I'd have a flat "U" shaped bracket with a spacer welded inside for the correct bolt to go through.
It is probably redundit, but I like having a secure anchor for the braking torque that's there.

What size tire are you running? I have a 140/70-18 on mine and have plenty of room.

Make sure you have the proper bolt and bronze bushing in the torque arm or it will go "clunk" every time you use the rear brake.
