Marko, I say shim them. You're getting farther in your project than someone else here ....wonder what happened to that plan to make a see thru engine cover? Gas tank? What else???

I think a spacer machined to fit would be alot safer than flat shim material bent to fit the fork tubes.

Heck, if they still use a big ol O-ring on the space shuttle, whats wrong with a shim? They use shims on the front ends of cars for alignment. Is that any less dangerous ? And there clamped with a bolt.

Shims will give you no problems if done right. SO that is what, like 7 for and only one against.

Hey thanks for all the good info. When I get some pictures I'll show ya how it turned out. My machinist is kinda slow so it might be a while. Hey fish the shims are going to be rounded to fit real nice in the fork opening. Thanks MarkB)

Should not be a problem if the shims are made properly, I would go with a shoulder on them and install with shoulders facing down as most of the force is trying to push the fork tubes up through the triple tree clamps..

How thick are the shims going to be? if they are really thin you may want to keep a eye on them as they may compress slightly and loosen over time....What material are they going to be made of? If they are going to be thin then they should be made of a hard material, if not you could make them out of a softer material such as aluminum or bronze....

I'm not sure how thick the shims are going to be, maybe 2mm but that just a guess. Still haven't got the triples from my friend yet he is out of town till tomorrow. The shims will have a shoulder on them. I will make sure that they are made from a hardened metal too. Thanks for the good advice ride safe MarkB)

I've shimmed clip ons with flat stock, only to have them spin (aluminum shim stock). When I made a spacer, (aluminum)it took care of the loose clip on problem.
I guess either method would work, I just prefer the spacer method, as it has worked for me in the past.
