A couple of years ago I bought a bike off a local person. They'd broken a chain at some point. The transmission cover casting around the front sprocket was shattered. You could see slap marks on the cases where the chain hit. I didn't think much of it until I drained the oil and got chunks of cast aluminum out. I pulled the oil pan, and where the chain hit the cases, the inside of the cases had exploded into a crater - although strangely the cases never leaked.

I found the rest of the broken link when i removed the sprocket cover. I bent the clutch rod. Lucky i didn't do more damage.
The lift is real nice to have.
I cleaned the swingarm up and painted it. Roy

My estimate on the chain was wrong and the chain wouldn't fit. I could not find a half link any where.
So i made another swingarm. A royal pain!!!
Here it is.
The one in the middle is the one i built. The short one is stock and the tall one was the one i was running. Roy

Re: I broke a chain

I rode my bike to town and there was strange noises in the rear hub.
I tore it down yesterday and i had a bad bearing. Real bad.
I am just going to replace the whole wheel. Waiting to see if i win one on eBay.
I am going back to the longer swingarm as the bike sits higher in the rear with the shorter one and transfers more action to the front forks and they have minimal travel to start with and it is a rough ride.
I'll have to sand blast the wheel to match the front.
I will also have plenty of time to polish the right side covers on the engine. Roy:)
