If you're going to hook a long hand shifter rod to the tranny why not go for a semi-automatic transmission conversion? How? use a very heavy weight for the shifter knob - let's say a full size skull made of lead. Then every time you hit the brakes hard, the momentum of the shifter skull will pull the shifter rod forward - thus automagically downshifting one gear. In the same way, every time you get on the throttle hard, inertia will cause the shifter skull to move toward the rear thus upshifting one gear. I promise you, you'll be the first kid on the block to have one. :silly: On a more serious note, good luck with your bike and just be sure whatever mods you make err on the side of safety. Ed

True, but the $12,900 bike doesn't have an actual size shifter skull (as I suggested above) so it detracts from the inherent beauty, flowing lines, and natural symmetry of that bike. Everyone knows puny little shrunken red skulls are passé.

Nah, we've been making fun of the fact that he wants $12,900 for doing that. If not for the price i doubt the bike would have garnered much attention, or at least not nearly as much as it has

I like your idea. When the arthritis in my left knee gives me problems that would make it alot easier to ride.

Small difference between me and that bonehead creation. Mine don't have a 10 speed bikes handlebars, and I wont put pink on my bike!..lol...anyway if you like the idea of putting a jockey shift on the bike or not, I may still do it. I am not one that cares what other people think. As long as I can ride whatever I end up with safely, and it isn't hurting me or anyone else what makes the difference. I still haven't completely made up my mind on what I am doing yet, but the jockey shift is still an option. Or maybe someone else has a good idea for something a lil different than what everyone else is doing that I could do. O i am painting the bike flat black, leaving the Kawasaki plate on the tank, and painting the 650 CSR in Kawasaki Green...Just a little input for what I am doing there too. Maybe now I will get told how stupid that is too. LOL...anyway keep up the input guys I like it.

Speaking of which, I saw a KZ750/4 with a sidecar hack for sale on the side of the road the other day and went back later at night to have a look. It was for someone who was disabled (had the sticker) had a suicide shift (just a piece of apprx 1/2" metal rod with a bend at the top for a handle) that was hooked straight onto the regular shaft. Didn't seem like it would add all that much weight and he had a vetter fairing on it so no problems with it getting caught in the wind.
It was an interesting machine, lots of custom bits and bobs on it

Somebody likes the word stupid alot!!! You didn't buy the bike? I am sure there is someone out there looking for another project, and you could have gotten it for them...Shame on you..lol  I don't know maybe I will take this bike down to the car crusher and watch it get smushed into little pieces, then just go and buy a new bike....HMMMMMMM...probably not though.
