Thanks for the replies! I will check out the midusa site. The answer to using tubes is that in my experience they fail really fast when punctured. (time to change underwear) It's only happened twice in 40+ years, so the odds are on my side. I've also had problems convincing shops to put tubeless tires on wheels not stamped/marked for tubeless use. (KZ650-mag wheels-requires tubes) I'm in no hurry, plan on sourcing hubs from EBay for the Z1 and taking it a step at a time. I like Dunlop tires and they only offer one choice for OEM sizes. D404 and they don't wear very well. I'm probably splitting hairs here. Thanks again all and ride safe. Steve

OK...looking at the photos of the rims. I can't see any difference. Does the tubeless rim have grooves where the sidewall mounts while the tube type doesn't?

An explanation is provided by steell in his topic that was linked above. Also, look at the pics more carefully - there is a difference.

It's not that easy to see the difference, but the difference is that lip sitting about 1/2" in from the outside of the wheel. On the tube type wheel the ridge the bottom of the tire mounts to is flat all the way to the center of the wheel then suddenly drops off. The tubeless type starts out flat, then has the lip that sticks up, however slight it may look that holds the tire firmly in place on the wheel. It is firm too, no way to break the tire loose from the wheel without a c-clamp at the least. The tube type you can step on the side of the tire and it slides right off into the center of the wheel.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
