k, thanks, i figured i would soak it since it is off the bike and so is evenything else at the moment. I will do like you guy's mentioned and give it a good clean, then spray some chain wax on it. Thanks, jim.

my take on this...hang the chain up and put some 10 w30 on it and keep wiping untill all the snotty stuff comes off....then do some more 10w30 and keep wiping....keep it in some kind of sealed plastic with a light coat of same oil on it...ifn you start using kerosene and the like , you start
compromising the o rings that keep lube in the pins...those o rings do the job, you just want to keep the outside of them clean...i remember my youth
well when i used to spray belray all over the place and all it did was make a frackin' mess....just my .02.....keith

Ok, I give up, how is it that everyone but me seems to know it's an o-ring chain? Can someone please point out the post that says this? I've read every one of the posts numerous times and I still can't find it. Maybe it's a mental thing :(

I didn't see it either, but all the good chains these days are O or X rings. I guess it could be an old steel chain with no rings in it. :laugh:

actually it is a non o-ring chain.......lol, but i keep it well lubricated in the riding season.
