78 KZ 650 D1 Swingarm Bearing Mystery
13 Feb 2006 17:57
Just had my Wiredgeorges rebuilt super-duper carbs installed..they work great - thanks George..
When I went to pick up the bike, my mechanic informed me that the swing arm has a great deal of play in and the bearings are probably shot.
So after checking my Clymer Guide and calling one of OUR KZ vendors - I am appealing to you'all. Anybody have any idea size they are, or maybe a KZ model #, or??

According to buykawasaki.com:
You might be able to cross reference the HK2216 number (you need 4 of them), 92046-1115 is the Kawasaki part number.92046-1115 BEARING-NEEDLE,HK2216 4

steel is right on the Kawi part# (92046-1115), and the bearing manufacturers part# (HK2216) as well.
Although I can't remember exactely who the manufacturer is.
The bearing size is in the manufacturers part# itself - 16MM.
If Jeff at Z1 doesn't have them, whatever you do DON'T buy them from a Kawi dealer!
My local Kawi dealer wanted $12 each for them lil buggers!
I hit up a local bearing supply shop that I've dealt with before when I replaced the ones on my 650, and scored all 4 of them for $24 - half the price the dealer wanted for the EXACT same bearings.
If you can find a well stocked bearing supply shop near you, they should either have them in stock, or be able to fetch them from their main warehouse/supplier.
Good luck.

I suspect that the numbers are the sizes of the bearing. 22 mm O/D and 16 mm I/D.
You should be able to cross reference them with any bearing manufacturer. Most if not all of them make metric bearings. SKF are italian and should have a direct cross reference, NTN are Japanese same story.
Check this out

I'm just to good
According to the cross reference site www.tec.nsk.com/ the numbers you need are:
NTN FJ-2216
SKF FJ-2216
Hmm, same number at both, maybe it's generic, or it could possibly be a NSK number, worth checking out anyway.
I just checked again and that is an NSK number.
Another "Hmmm" the NTN part number is HK2216C apparently.
You can search by bearing type and size at the NTN website.
www.ntnamerica.com/tech_support.htm#
Oh yeah, it is 22mm ID, 28mm OD, 16mm long, AKA 22mm bore size, 28mm D (OD) 16mm d (deep or long). Must ride on a sleeve that fits over the pivot bolt because I am sure the 650 does not have a 22mm swingarm pivot bolt.
