Am looking at a KZ1000P Swingarm to mount in my 78 KZ650 - I know the 78 KZ1000 swingarms will fit - does anyone know if the 87-91 KZ1000P swingarm is the same width bearing-wise as the older 77-78 KZ1000s, and if there are any other differences I need to be worried about?

I was considering one of these as well. I saw one on ebay and emailed the seller with questions about the dimensions of the swingarm but they couldn't be bothered to write me back with any answers.

How much longer is the 1000P swingarm than the stock KZ650/750 swingarm? What would we really be gaining? What about spacers and such?

The main advantage of the KZ1000P arm, if it is the same as a earlier KZ1000, would just be a inch or two of length and a little more beef over the KZ650 arm and an all stock look. Just rebuilding a 650 and looking for a KZ100 arm to put in - I have a KZ1000 rear disc wire wheel to put on the 650, so it goes better with a KZ1000 arm without having to modify it.

Well the EBay seller for the KZ1000P swingarm offered me a 77 KZ1000 arm instead, so I took that. Is going to go into a 78 KZ650 frame and would give me a little beefier swingarm and just about a 1 1/2 inch longer axle point. However, what I have found out so far on comparing them side by side, is that the KZ1000 arm is about .125 wider at the outsides of the bearing tube than the KZ650 arm and either the frame bushings or the arm will have to be trimmed to fit the arm into the KZ650 frame. Has anyone else done this swap and which side of the problem did you trim?

The other thing I noticed that surprised me, was that the inside of the KZ650 arm is actually wider at the front area than the KZ1000 arm, it looks like it is about 1/4 to 3.8 wider, so it looks like it will actually allow a wider tire on the KZ650 arm.

Just some findings in case anyone is interested in this swap. Have not decided if it is worth trimming the KZ1000 arm to fit yet or not

Just a thought...what about the brake-stay arm?...same length,or will You have to mod that...or use the 1000P caliper as well? You might want to look into that one before You go and get all gung-ho on the install...
Or get some measurements, and have one made up?...
