Rear wheel shock damper - Glue it? was created by JMKZHI
While servicing the rear wheel, I removed the shock damper from the hub to clean it. Is it supposed to be re-glued in place? Mine appears to have been glued at the factory.

Edit: it's a one piece cush drive damper in good condition & fits snug.

Are you refering to the large round rubber damper in the hub? Cush (crush ?) drive I believe it's called.

The two I've had open the damper was loose in there. Can't go anywhere when it's all together.

The Kaw diagrams list it as a rear hub shock damper - I guess folks refer to it as the cush drive. It's the big rubber thing, about 8" in diameter, looks maybe kinda like a ... what does that thing look like? It's a weird shape. JMK.

That's true, but I'm thinking that maybe someone has been in there, and has applied some urethane to take up some slop in the dampners.
Some of them are a 1-piece,where others are individual pieces(6).
There are posts(more likely in the archives)about this, and what members have done to build up the rubber when the old ones get worn, using urethane-based products.

If there's only "Spots" of glue, then it COULD be factory,to hold the dampner in place, during assembly.

The shock damper (cush drive) on my 81 650-CSR is a one piece unit in good condition & fits snug.

Okay, thanks. I didn't glue it then. I guess I won't do it this time either.

There was a shock dampe article by jtmcculloch (fairly sure) around here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. It was more of a repair how-to, though.

I have put some clear Auto-Goop on my cush damper to take up a little slop. After 4 years it's back.

The previous owner of your bike probably did the same thing.

I am the previous owner. :)
The damper was lightly glued at the factory.
As stated, it's in good condition & fits snug.
I'm not going to bother glueing it or anything.
