Maybe it's just me, but I've had very good luck with MP cables. In fact the last one I bought (2 years ago) for my 650 was the smoothest clutch cable I've ever had on any bike I've ever owned, including OEM cables. That does not include the hydraulic clutch on my ZRX.

My last MP clutch cable lasted 2 years and I lube thoroughly before instalation. I am guilty of only lubing my cables once a year, other than a squirt into the levers. This included getting caught an hour from home in a driving rain storm at dusk, what a miserable semi hypothermic experience that was! Nothing like being passed by a semi at night, in the rain and moving my head to different angles in order to funnel off the rain, for SOME vision. I don't want to repeat that one again any time soon. I almost had to crow bar my puckered ass from it's death grip to the seat. Anyway, thanks for the lube tips/reminders and alternate experiences. I have my new MP cable here and feel fine with it. If I wasn't such a cheap SOB I'd buy a factory cable. Who knows, maybe next time. For now, I'll just pack a curled up OEM beater cable from my parts bike, on a long trip. I pack some basic tools anyway, so why not.

I dunno ... I've had pretty good luck with Motion Pro cables over the years .... used 'em mostly for dirt bike and ATV applications ... they seemed to hold up and last just fine. I just installed a new M-P clutch cable on my KZ750H1 ... I only got to use it ten days before the tractor thing happened ... but I'll keep it lubed good and we'll see how long it lasts.

I buy only Motion Pro cables but one must be careful they will perform differently from bike to bike. I have talked to Motion Pro and found out that a recommended cable might not be exactly the same as the original in length. OEM cables are fit to each individual bike. For example you will notice that even the OEM part# for the 81 and 82 GPZ1100 is not the same Motion Pro shows the same Part # as the CSR1000. This cable is much too long. You may have to reroute the Motion Pro cable in a different spot to prevent binding. I personally pay the extra $15 and have a custom cable cut by Motion Pro and have NO problems. Motion Pro are very accommodating and easy to work with. Last time I talked with them they told me that they will be revamping their part # reference for the older bikes. If you are in doubt, just call them with the length of the original cable and they will find the best cable for you from their engineering drawings, or make you a custom one. I have no problems with my cables from them at all and I lube them only about once a month (about 1500mi)

I forgot to mention that last year I put over 10,000mi on my 76 KZ900 with a Motion Pro cable. I also had 3 custom cables made for my 81 GPZ1100 to have a couple spares (should last a lifetime)
