does anyone know of a 520 pitch front sprocket that will work on a 900 output shaft?

i'm doing some looking around, and i think i saw where an 02 R6 sprocket shares the same number splines and pitch of a 900 output, but i cannot seem to find a confirmation for that.

i'm converting to a 636 rear wheel, and they run 520 chains standard. i can probably swap it out for a 530 easy enough, but i just wanted to confirm that i can or cannot go with a 520 on the engine side.

i need one that is solid, no holes in it, as i will have to make an offset with it as to run the 5.5" wheel.

aw-itey.

according to JT sprockets web site, looks like any front sprocket with these dims will work on the kz output shaft:

13 splines
25 mm large diameter on splines
21.6 mm internal diameter on splines.

so, to answer my own question from above, an r6 front sprocket WILL fit on the kz output shaft.

not proven, but it ought to work.

gives me some more ideas.

Should fit. I think I've seen that done somewhere. I just can't remember where...

I am planning on ordering their R6 03-05 front drive sprocket for my conversion for my 650 so that I can run the 530 setup on mine...

Also, if you reference the rear sprockets you will find that the KZ (at least the 650) is a 74mm center bore, with 10.5mm bore bolt bore at 104mm spacing. The R6 is also 10.5mm bolt bores, but has a 110mm center bore and a 130mm spacing.

Thats great because it won't be hard to make an adapter to run the R6 rear sprockets... and this adapter can act as a spacer to get that sprocket out far enough that it clears a 180/190 rear tire. :)

You should not need a spacer to clear a 180 tire . you should have to go the other way.with a 180 you will have to bring the front sprocket out a minimum of 5/8",and the rear in to line up with the front and clear the frame.(5 1/2"rim)This will mean a speacial order 5/8" offset 18 tooth 520 front sprocket.If you go more than 5/8" you should use a bearing suport,and you will hit the frame with the chain so more mods are ness.So 5/8" is the most popular upgrade to keep costs down.

...Problem being that if you get a 5/8" offset front drive gear the chances are pretty darn good that it is 630 chain.

I've never been able to find one that was a 530 chain before that was made for our bikes....

77 kz1000 center bore is 80mm from what i can find.

that matches up with the 80mm bore on the 636 sprocket as well. same bolt circle of 104mm and 10.5mm holes.

i've got both at home. tomorrow i am gonna try and see if a kz sprocket will fit the 636 carrier.

that means that i ought to be able to use either a 520 or a 530 setup. the 530 would give me the option of an off-the-shelf offset front sprocket. 520 means i'll have to make it.

i need to get the swingarm and linkage mounted in the frame, then assess my chainline. i agree that more than 5/8ths offset will need a support bearing. hell, i kinda feel that even a 3/8ths will need it, but i hesitate to commit to that. 8^)

let us know how that goes. i might go thru for a 530 as well, and just run that instead.

depends on how ambitious i am about making my own 520 offset sprocket. the standard r6 cog runs about 30 bones shipped from kneedraggers, then probably 3/4 hours of my time to cut it, true it, and weld it back up. machine shop will do one for 125.

decisions, decisions. 8^)

From my research I've found that the weight savings of the 520 vs the 530 don't really make it worth it when you take into account the frequency with which you'll need to replace your chain. There's apparently a pretty big difference in longevity and tensile strength of the chain iteself between the two.

Just a little heads up from what I had read. :D

I called over to Precision. I'm gonna try to swing by this week. I'll keep you all posted.

the 520 vs 530 debate for me is really all about me being lazy.

i have a good 520 rear sprocket already...

tensile strength is gonna matter, as well as longevity. this bike's going on a LONG road trip this summer, so i want as little hassle as possible.

right on man, let me know what they can do for the 530 offset. might be right behind you ordering one.
