Bob,

I have never heard of matching the angle of the carb on the bike when in the test stand. Everything I have heard and done is to level and plumb them to set floats, your long arm to increase adjustment angle on the tab is good but I think your way over thinking it.. it’s not that hard to test bend a bit, retest and evaluate. Are you using the clear tube method?

Your write up is like the book of Leo Tolstoi "war and peace",over 1000 pages of conversation but i my self have no clue of your Basic Problem.
If your ignition Switch is your main Problem, remove it, dissamble the unit, check for weak Connections, repair it if possible.
Sorry, but long story short is the Goal and step by step....

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationWell, what I've got is the KZ1000-P which uses the same engine... And they were still being made till 2005. So you might be able to find a KZ1000-P version on ebay. Though looking at the rest of the post, it looks like what you're needing is the ignition cylinder. Here I was thinking you were talking about the button to start once the key is turned.

It doesn't say KZ1000-J1, but it does say it fits KZ1000-P, which is the same engine at the very least. Also, I know for a fact that the ignition cylinder in my bike did NOT come from the bike because it uses a different key from the gas cap and seat lock. The guy I bought it from fixes up KZ1000s and he stupidly put a different bike's petcock in the tank, causing the vacuum line to point forward into the engine, pinching it. I had to replace it with a NOS one for a P.

Point is, you can probably use a KZ1000-P's ignition cylinder just fine.

Partzilla is telling me that part number 27005-5035 both fits the J1 and is still available directly from Kawasaki, and there are two other compatible switches which were depreciated for 27005-5035. Also, this same part again fits the KZ1000-P.

This should make it a LOT easier for you to find the part you need.

KZs I own
1982 KZ750-H3 LTD (frame's bent, no longer rideable, RIP)
1982 KZ1100 LTD Shaft (thought it was a Spectre)
1988 KZ1000 Police
1989 KZ1000 Police (basket case)
2002 KZ1000 Police

Non-KZs:
1983 Hondamatic 450
2001 Honda Rebel
