Here is my header, untouched as in factory un modified

The air correctors go in the pilot air passage and restrict air flow back to a volume created by a factory air box. When pods are installed air volume into the pilot air passage drastically increases. Thus people increase pilot jet size to correct a lean condition. With correctors the pilot jet can go back to stock size and really helps with low rpm acceleration and mpg.

Zed1015 is the man, pm him about the air correctors.

I'm running 120 main jets. 22.5 pilots.

What are air corrector jets for the pods?

When you did the Dyna S, did you have to replace the coils, or run stock?

Also, why wouldn't you run the hotter plugs? Seems like they'd burn more fuel and it would be the cheapest fix-- right?

Hi, Flatblackobsession.
Here's a link to the air corrector thread.,,

You should read it to the end for all the details and comments of their effectiveness.
With them installed you would put all settings back to stock including needle position etc and go around two sizes up on the stock main.
No need to mess about with larger pilots and lifting needles that don't fully cure the low end hesitation and also over richens the mid and top end..
With the Dyna you can run stock coils or performance coils as long as they are 3 to 5 ohms resistance.
As for the plugs. Hotter plugs run hotter.
They won't burn more fuel and will only delay the fouling but you do risk overheating and damaging the engine as a result.

Stock carbs that year ran 102.5 mains and 15 pilots. The shaft model ran 110 mains. The needles were 5CN17 set in the third position. Needle jets were O4. The fuel/air screws were 1 and 1/8 out from lightly touching. The floats were set at 4 mm.

I have a set of similar carbs off a 1980 KZ1000LTD. I'm running a stock Z1 air intake and a 4/1 of unknown make, but I think it's V&H. I'm running 107 mains and 17.5 pilots with the original needles and needle jets. The only difference is that my needles are fixed in one position, but I could add a spacer if I wanted to lift them. (I don't)

I think your fuel consumption is in part due to large main jets and high speed riding. (90 mph) At that speed your needles would be pretty much at maximum height, and fuel flow would be governed by your main jets. I would suggest smaller mains, maybe try 112.5 and see how your mileage improves.

Another possible issue may be worn needle jets. If they go out of round (due to wear of the needle going up and down) they will allow more gas than necessary into the air flow, and the gas will not emulsify as completely as it should. Keyster sells kits with needle jets but the kits are expensive because they provide a variety of main jet sizes, pilot jet sizes and needles.
