Good morning everybody
Trying to solve my overcharging problem, I bought a new r/r whitch i'll install today. With that, and because there is a new stator hanging around here I opened the left engine case to check the stator and maby replace it. And I came after a strange situation: my new stator is smaler in diameter that the installed one. And I bit different.
My question is, could some previus owner changed the magneto-stator combo with some other bike's different that z1100gp? It's obvious that somebody changed it in the past, you can tell from the three types of bolts in there... The bike came with that stator, it's the first time I open the left case. Pictures of the two as following...

The GPZ 1100 usually had the larger rotor/stator so I would say what you have is correct and maybe what you bought isn't right. Another thing that won't fit is the inside diameter of the stator, that diameter is different so you really can't mix and match the stator from other models. You have the use the stator that fits the inside diameter.

Assuming you own a 1983 or 1984 GpZ1100 I believe you are correct in that the stator you show mounted is not a match for the one shown in the parts diagram. The other stator does appear to be a match. Notice the one mounted has 12 lumps, but the other one has 18 lumps. If you count the lumps on the one in the parts diagram you'll see it also has 18 lumps. The 1983 and 1984 GpZ1100 models both use the same stator. Ed

Etbike 3135 thank you for the reply, yes I noticed that the inside diameter is also different, that's why I'm asking myself if somebody changed them both, stator and magneto, maby he couldn't find only what he wanted,
I own the bike for the last 16 years, so no internet market back then, (this is Greece...)

Ed, thanks for the reply, I'm sorry I didn't mention it, my bike is a 1982 B2 gpz converted to carbs (not from me, I bought it as is)
I checked the diagramms last night, that's when I started worrying...
I also checked ebay and noticed that every stator available for the B2 has 18 lumps....

I was wondering if it came off another model. Being it is overcharging why change it and not just the R/R?

I was wondering the same thing.. especially when I saw that no 12 lumps stator is available on ebay for the B2..
I thought that maby the old stator is a part of the problem, and once I had a new already, why not change it...

I'm in the middle of a sort of a "lifting"on her, I got her repainted, carbs cleaned and new service kits, new cam chain, etc..
I just put the carbs on the bike
