What kind of turn signal relay to get?

The bike in question is an '82 KZ750-H3 LTD

I'm wanting to do the same thing with the relay I did to my Rebel... That is swap in a relay that will flash at a steady rate regardless of what bulbs I put in, or even if the bulbs are mixed and matched.

I've purchased relays from stores CLAIMING their relays fit my bike, but they never do. They end up sending me something for a Ninja or a Vulcan...

Also, I did search for this in the forum, but haven't been able to find the specific information I'm looking for.

I'm just kind of wondering what the name of the plug type is called so I can make sure I'm getting the right kind.

The auto parts store should have turn signal flashers that are a direct fit. Round. 12-volt. 2-prong.
electronic flashers (electromechanical) operate on varying loads.
heavy duty trailer flashers are often recommended. I've never installed one, but these are supposed to fit:
Novita. LL552 = long life light duty trailer flasher. EL12 = heavy duty trailer flasher. LF12 = 5x louder.

Heck, EL12 is the same kind I put in my Rebel... Well actually it was a JDM ASTAR CF-12. Basically the same thing as an EL-12 but can flash regardless of which bulbs you have installed.

Having worked with it, I'm pretty sure that's not true... EL12 relays can only handle one side at a time, where my KZ750 has a hazard light switch, so it would have to be more than 2 prong... But I'm going to go double check what's on the bike...

If it is a 2-prong, I'll just swap the CF-12 I got for the Rebel and put the Rebel's old one back in.

(edit) Nope... she's got a 6 prong relay in a rectangular plug .

So if your kz750 h3 still has the orginal electrical bracket that is the way they came.I'm sure you could do it another way but one for each works and was they way they were from the factory.

Thanks. The pic you showed me helped me find them by knowing what to look for. They're on the left side... I followed the wires from the 6 pronged plug and they lead me to a cover under the bikini fairing on the left side... This explains why I haven't been able to find anything that fits... I stopped with the right side with the funky black rectanglar box that says it's the relay and scratched my head because I've never seen such a relay.

I only saw 2 though of the EL-12s though. I'm guessing the 3rd is buried somewhere. Thanks a bunch. The one on my Rebel is insufficient. Gonna need to buy 3... But the one CF-12 I got on the Rebel, I don't think it's going to fit into the sockets that hold on to the relays as the suckets are round and the CF-12 that's been my go to for "install any bulb you like or even mix and match them if you want" so far is square shaped...

I can probably do this but I might have to relocate the relays to under the seat where there'll be room, and where I can tape them down. For the Rebel, I had to relocate it to the battery compartment.

There should only be 2 relay/flashers --- one for the turn signals & one of the hazards. they're both round.
The factory service manual may have info on the rectangular turn signal operating unit.
The auto parts store has round electronic flashers & they are purported to be a direct fit.
I'm pretty sure autozone has the ones I listed above from the Novita website.

I know they have round ones at like AutoZone, but my question is whether or not they'll flash regardless of the resistance on the lines.

I'm wanting to install LEDs just because I prefer instant on, instant off. However even right now my left front side has some corrosion, which is increasing resistance and making the left side take longer to flash, which in turn means that the hazards are not working properly.

The rectangular on the right is the auto shut off also emergency light unit on that side. Auto shut off i never have been able to get going and have replaced it once. Dont really miss it as i havent had it. I have found modern flasher electric relays at oriellies and other auto stores that WILL fit the original rubber holder. They werent terribly expensive either 5,6 dollars each. Hope that helps nice ride. Hope you get the kinks worked out.

Clean the ground wires on the back turn signals with emry cloth or fine grit sand paper and clean the wires at connectors until they are brite again. Would recommend contact cleaner spray (can be had at auto store ) as well Will help alot with that resistance. It' agood idea if you havent already done so to do all wires in the same manner. You will see the whole system functions better. Ie better spark turn signals not delayed. It takes some time but you'll know your bikes electrical system better and may find any other bare wires or cracked insulation. 34 year old bikes who knows what others have done in the past. Anyways good luck and great riding.
