Hey Guys,
Just picked up a nice little '81 CSR650. I got papers for it but unfortunately there is no key. I have read you can get the code off the ignition but I have removed the whole mechanism and cannot see a key code. On that year bike, where else might I look?
Thanks

1981 KZ650-CSR code location: ign switch, seat lock & helmet lock (photo). Example code: Z5064.

After determining the code, one source for replacement keys is eebbaayy: try searching the key number --- I did the other day & found a seller who cuts new keys using the code you provide.

Look next to the keyhole on each of the locks. On mine, there only is a code on the seat lock. Mine is a 1977; later models may have the codes in different places on the locks. Ed

The code i found there makes no sense. It reads 008-2bON. I can't seem to find any mention of that code.

You may have to take the ign switch to a locksmith. It's possible it isn't original & could be aftermarket. ???
Did you try cleaning the switch where the code is supposed to be? (the code in the pic is upside down)
The seat lock & helmet lock are your other options, but the seat needs to be open to remove them. pretty sure.

I got the seat lock off and found the number N01. That appears to make more sense.

When I google that number I get some results. Found one on eBay, in UK though so it's 20 bucks.

Actually, after a little more cleaning and searching I found the code Z5683. From what I've read that's the number I'm looking for. Any recommendations on someone in Canada or US who cuts keys for these?
