Horn ground

Can someone tell me where the kz750 b4 horn grounds ? It stopped working a while bike and am just not looking into it . Everything works except the horn. Will check to see if it's getting power later but right now I'm wondering where it grounds out and what wire is the ground in case no power is found in either.

I thought it made a direct ground to the frame?

It looks like the black wire is the ground side and it goes through the button switch to ground.

Would having black handlebars keep the switch from grounding ? I read that somewhere .

Sounds like my horn button. I had a bad ground last year and had to take the left hand switch gear apart and clean with contact cleaner and Q tips. It was like doing micro surgery. A PITA.
I have black handlebars also but I dont think it matters. As far as I remember the other switches in there have ground wires and the horn ground is through these. `Pretty sure but not totally.

maybe it just needs the contacts cleaned . not home now but just trying to get ideas of what could be wrong .

it should be easy to test the horn by just running a wire from the horn (black wire contact) to ground. If the horn sounds then the fault has to be further along - either wire to handlebar switch broken or bad ground in the switch itself.

Some handle bars will not let the switch ground.
I had that problem with a set of black bars I installed on my 650.
Had to run a separate ground wire to the left hand handle bar switch.

I just had my left switch assembly apart on my kz1000. I can tell you that the horn would not work until I bolted the switch assembly back on to the handlebars. So that tells me that it grounds through the handlebars. You could test this by taking the switch halves apart and running a ground wire to the horn switch. If that makes it work, then maybe sand a little of the black paint off underneath the switch?

Okay did some testing and yes my handlebars are keeping the horn from grounding. i put the housing against the frame and was getting 15v down to the horn wires. so that problem is solved . bought this used horn off a guy cheap who said it came from a running bike . Horn is useless . Need a new one and I am buying brand new this time . Sometimes you cant trust peoples word , seriously .
