Best replacement battery
17 May 2013 20:18
Hey guys just looking for a replacement battery, figured I'd check if there are any alternatives or recommendations as opposed to the standard Yuasa 12N 12A-4A-1 (12V 12 AH) as stated in my manual. Thanks!

If you go with lead acid, the AGM types are the best. The Shorai Li types are a lot lighter and smaller but are pricey.

I like the Motobatt batteries. Not all that expensive, maintenence free and work fine. I'm on my first one, only 13 months old, so not a long term test, but I like it so far. I won't destroy a battery by setting a tender on it in winter, so even after sitting all winter, the battery turns the engine over great.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

www.odysseybattery.com/
are the best on the market IMHO. I rode my V65 Sabre in -50F weather, in the winter, with a heated snowmachine suit and boots. The bike would restart, no problem, with this battery. I have never seen a battery crank as long as this battery would, in any condition. I have had mine 5 years, not even had a battery tender on it.

For work, our Canadian associates/friends up in Edmonton (-55 below zero ) turned us onto Odyssey batteries even over the Optima series, awesome batteries in the extreme cold....
Use them in my 4runner now... Turns out Optima that used to be a really good battery sold out, now manufactured in Mexico where quality has gone to the crapper....
As Bounty mentioned, AGM the way to go...
Sure, a tad more in $$$ but you won't be sorry.
My first one here in AZ (extreme summer heat @ 115F) lasted 4-5 years and was still going strong. I just replaced on this last build due to re-mod of the battery cage allowed for larger AH & CCA battery....

So the odyssey doesn't fit, can anyone give me any help on a specific battery? I can't seem to find any other than a standard Walmart brand

Re: Best replacement battery
25 May 2013 21:46I have batteries for five years and never put them on tenders. I take them out and store them in my basement during the winter. Yuasa I have had for at least five years now. Still going strong. My rex batteries from stock 2002 is still going strong. No tender. Just warm storage.Hollywoodmx wrote:CruisingRam wrote: www.odysseybattery.com/ are the best on the market IMHO.
