Fronts are usually dual filiment;running and signals. The rear do not have running abilities, as I believe it's a DOT violation to have amber(yellow) signals visable to the rear.
Most Kawasaki's have a rubber vibration isolator the signal goes through, and inside the signal stem may have a miniature bullet connector.

Stems look like they are off a later bike.

The turn signals in this pic, at least the stalks (stems), are from some different model, and are not Z1 items.

The more I am getting onto this bike it seems that just about everything is from different bikes!
Is it just the damper rubber that holds the stem in the original stalk?

There's usually a nut and washer on the stem(hidden by the seat), holding it all together.

Like MFOLKS said, there is a washer and nut that goes onto the threaded shaft behind the frame after the stalk passes through it but there is also another ground washer with a wire lead on it that must go up to the rear wiring harness for the lights to work.

All the threads stick out past the back side of the grommet.
A washer and nut go onto the threads.
The oval part is just thick enough to allow the nut to be tightened without crushing the grommet.
The front turn signals mount through similar grommets in the headlight shell.

Thanks for all of the help. I found the drawings on partzilla and now is clear as mud.
The only saving grace on this bike is that the frame and engine match. And it runs. I can see it's gonna be a lot of nickle and dimes.

Aftermarket blinkers are inexpensive and easily installed in a location where they don't interfere with throw-over saddlebags.
A simple mount is easy to fabricate and attach to the tag bracket. Will last forever, and also provides a handy place to hook a bungee cord.
