Any dual output ignition coil with same resistance should be compatible.

The "fire differently" may refer to stock mounting of the 650 coils being reversed from stock mounting of large four coils.

Electrically the same, but may be physically different. The wires might be shorter on the 650, and the bolt spacing may be different. I know the 550 and 650 have different spacing, but not sure on the 900/1000.

Probably more than you want to spend, but Emgo coils might be an option.
$36/ea at Z1E - for some KZ models. Not sure if Emgo makes any others.

Well I learned a little bit more about my project kz900 and alot more about the brotherhood of kzr. Had a member show alot of love with the correct coils and great,i mean great price!! TomW I'm gonna pass it on if I have the parts u looking for!! Thanks a million kz10006
