Without re-reading all the posts, do you have stock coils or are you running Dyna coils? I did finally get your pulsing coils to fail after a bout two weeks. One of them opens after heating for an extended period of time.

Hi Otakar, Sorry to hear they failed on you, though it's good to know that I didn't replace the ignition system for no good reason. I am curently running the Dyna-S system.

Just got back from an eighty mile round trip to Laconia,NH airport to see a B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator and P-51 Mustang fly in today. Pretty cool stuff. The bike ran flawlessly.

In my opinion, the weak area on the Dyna "S" is the supplied splice unless it's the water resistant type.

The original ones would get moisture in the wire joint and corrode making for intermittent operation. If it were me, I'd be soldering the area and then covering it with heatshrink tubing.

That was the main reason i wanted you to send them to me is for them to be checked. There is no reason to be sorry. The question is, what coils are you running?

OHHHhhhh. You mean the ignition coils!
I am currently running original type stock coils.

Funny that MFolks mention the water resistance of the Dyna system. Since I had it installed, I've been caught in the rain twice and both times had trouble. Last time it died in an intersection and I ended up sitting on the side of the road in the rain for about a half hour.

I've since picked up a tube of dilectric grease for ignition connections.

I've spent many many hours removing dielectric grease from friend's bikes. It caused many more problems than it ever solved.

The grease is an insulator and wicks into connections over time reducing their continuity. Major headaches ensue.

There is your problem. You are using 2.2 Ohm coils with a 3 Ohm ignition system. You most likely burned out the Dyna. If you stayed with the Kawasaki ignition you would most likely been fine. "J" series bikes had 2.2 Ohm ignitions. If you plan on keeping the Dyna ignition you will have to go with 3 Ohm coils (Dyna Green coils or Accel universal coils)Otherwise go back to the Kawasaki ignition which is better anyways and you can either keep the stock coils or go to Dyna Gray coils and gain about 50% bigger spark.

I have heard from others that it is a good idea to switch to the Dyna coils to go with the Dyna ignition system, and now that I am working again, I probably will take that next step, as soon as I can afford it, (after a year of unemployment I am still playing catch-up), but I have to say that I don't think I have burned anything out. The original problem of the 1st and 4th cylinders cutting out has been occurring since I've had the bike and well before I went to the Dyna ignition system.
However, since cleaning out those six wiring connector blocks with the spray can of electrical contact cleaner, the bike has been running perfect. I've keep going further away from home with it on rides and it just purrrs!
I am quite honestly amazed at how well it has performing.

I am thinking of a trip to Albany to visit the USS Slater, if the weather holds. So we'll see how it does, if I make that run.

I know where you are coming from. I have been unemployed for 18 Mos come October 7 I have finally today received an offer letter from RIM. I hope to start within 2-3 weeks. I hope you did not burn the Dyna with the 2.2 ohm coils that are in the bike.

Others have reported that their Dyna S ignitions worked withe stock electronic ignition coils, for at least short terms of use. It's probably more of a longevity issue, than an instant failure.
