MKII turn signal hook up. stock tail light was created by Captaingamez
the stock tail light on my MKII is a dual bulb, it has one on the right and one on the left. what would i have to do to make the right and left side of my tail light operate as turn signals while still retaining my brake light functions and such.

It does not apear to be easy to do as the bulb sockets are welded/bonded together sharing the ground. Look at www.jpcycles.com and www.denniskirk.com for a electronic tail light circuit devise.

i figured it out . i ran a trailer adapter for a truck, the o ne i used was a 5 wire to 4 wire converter. it was pretty easy and its all hidden in the tail section very easily. ill post a pic tomorrow.

I see I'm too late to help, but you figured it out. A simple tail light converter is all you need. I bought a new one for around $15 after returning a much more expensive unit built specifically for motorcycles that cost nearly $100! I ended up going with small turn signals after all, but I think the dual bulb tail lights will work just fine.

What I really wanted to do was convert the bulbs to dual color led's so they'd be red and then turn yellow when the turn signal was on. That would be awesome with a clear lens. Never got that figured out...

I am not sure how good an idea this is anyway. If you have the tail lights blinking for turns, keep in mind they are VERY close together and VERY close to the center of the bike. Will a driver behind be able to interpret them?

That was a definite concern of mine too. It did seem to look pretty obvious though, but it's still hard to tell what a driver behind you would think, especially during the day when it would be even harder to see the lights.

The newer integrators are multicolored and some even have arrows that flash sequentially. Those would work much better.

the visibility issue is one of my concerns, i am going to make some alterations to the light itself, which would be easier if i could find some LED lights that plug into regular light sockets, do they make them? i thought of putting arrows maybe.

If I were following that sportbike with the annoying taillight blinking, I wouldn't have any idea that it meant turn signal. I think the safest turn signal is a larger one, mounted as far apart as possible. I bought some replica KZ1000R (ELR Replica) turn signals from www.z1enterprises.com and they look pretty nice. The front signals can come in either running light type or non-running light. I got the running light (bulb has two filaments).

the turnsignals are actually very visible. i tested it out today. i had two people follow me and tell me what they thought. they both said it was easy to tell what direction i was going from a safe distance.
