The bike sat for 20 years in the previous owners office. The battery is dead, spark plugs dont look to bad. It turns over and seems to have good compression. What esle do you need to know? thanks

If the bike has the original ignition points and you are trying to kick start it with a dead battery it's a futile effort. Replace the battery, clean the carb jets, change the oil, look inside the tank for rust, and check the fuel control valve on the tank(petcock) for blockage.
The carb float bowls need to be removed and look for old dried up gasoline residue(varnish) clogging the float operation.
Bringing an old bike back to life can be easy or difficult depending on how much $$$ you want to spend.

Thanks for your help, i'll try everything you suggested. No one seems to have a battery for this bike, I picked up a battery but it was too tall, and I cant get the right one ordered until November. I'll keep calling around I guess

Pull your battery out and go to WalMart. I easily found my battery replacement in about 5 minutes. Look for the computerized battery/oil filter/windshield wiper checker. Plug your year make and model of bike into it and it will tell you what battery to go with. but I am sure you can just eyeball the batteries on the rack and find the one that is identical to yours. Good luck!
