Heat shink is the best way for sure if you can fit the correct size over the connectors. Most heatshrink is 2 to 1 ratio. You can get 3 to 1 or more but it's expensive and not made in china crap you'll find at rat shack.
Another option is non-adhesive harness tape. I got some at The Eastwood Company years ago. What it is, is basically your black tape but without the adhesive mess. As strange as this sounds, it works pretty good. You wrap up your wires with this tape just like you would with black tape. At each end you can add regular adhesive black tape in ensure no unraveling. Comes out pretty clean, and I understand it was the way it was done back before heat shrink.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Great, thanks guys. I'll see what I can find around town with regard to heat shrink. That harness tape sounds like a good idea too. The electric tape I was taking off last night left quite a sticky mess.
