The advancer frame has a spindle coming straight up from the base. The points cam rotates on the spindle. It should rotate freely a few degrees. When the cam is disengaged from the advancer weights by slightly rotating it, the cam should just lift off with no resistance. I don't think there is any ridge that I'm aware of.
