Here is my Q to DynaS:
A year or 2 back, I bought a DS-2
ignition for my '77 KZ650. I also bought two DYDC1-1 coils, and your DYDW800
8mm suppression plug wires. I have some questions:
-Would it be ok to use solid copper plug wires with this setup?
-Is there any change of damaging anything if I do that?
-Do you think copper would have an advantage over my Dyna plug wires?
Thanks!
Here is their reply:
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your interest in Dynatek ignitions. Please find attached the
instruction information you might need. This is in a .PDF format and Adobe
Acrobat Reader is required to open it. You can download a free version of
this software at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html .
Please note the Dyna "S" is an analog system and not computer chip
controlled, therefore they do not require suppression of any type. But note
that a lot of accessories do require that suppression, the 2 stage rev
limiters, shift counters, radio equipment like CB/FM/ and all AM. If there
are no additional components to be used on the bike, any wires and any spark
plugs with the proper heat range should be fine.
There will be no improvement in performance with the change, so if you are
changing to see a difference, don't bother. As a side note, the DW800
suppression core wires are what I use on my race bike, and I do have access
to any type of plug wire that I want.
If we can be of further assistance, please contact us again
Sincerely

ALL plugs self clean at 550 deg.F
NGK I have always had best luck with
B7ES in the winter
B8ES in moderate temps
B9ES in the heat of summer
you must have good resistor plug caps that are in spec
5K~9K ohms
a bad cap will spoil a new plug in seconds
the coil mod is a great thing to do too I never expected the improvement. I thought it was my carbs for a whole year!!
NEVER use copper wires with a dyna set up. even says that in the instructions they mean it too
taylor wires I have seen problems with too
get the dyna wire set

Still pondering and wondering about above.
Recall reading that Dyna coils consume significantly more electrical power than stock OEM coils (especially at lower rpm).
Thinking insufficient voltage from battery to coils might be an issue. Possibilities coming to mind: bad battery; charging system issue (stator, regulator, rectifier, wiring, connections, other); poor negative battery terminal ground. Could also explain why all plugs from both coils are fouling (not limited to only the two plugs from a single coil).
Would also measure actual voltage at the positive coil terminals (idle and at 4000 rpm), being careful not to short to frame while testing.
Anxious to see you ripping down the road with nice blonde plug readings.

Thanks man, for the handy link. When my "motorycle fund coin jar" gets some cash back in it, I will probably get those, and some other stuff. In the meantime, I made some slight carb adjustments, ran great today, gonna try it for a coupla hundred miles, see what happens.
