kz 1000 Resistor

Merry Christmas all, I was going over the electrical parts required to put my ride back on the road, I have a wire diagram, rectifier and Regulator but am told I need a Resistor. The wire diagram does not show where this is located or what it is. Can anyone help.

The resistor would be a white plastic deal that is about 3 inches long and 1 inch wide. It mounts between the front frame downtubes. As I recall, power goes in one end and back out and splits and goes to the coils. I think the purpose is to ensure that the coils don't have an impedence mismatch and operate at about 3 ohms. I have one somewhere in the clutter of my shop but am not quite sure where the thing is at the moment.

BTW: I deleted the two dupe thread postings you made on this subject and please keep in mind I am not an electrical guru and could be off base regarding the purpose of the resistor block but the location and what it looks like are correct.

Dan, I think I would probe deeper into this need for a resistor question first. I know I have seen one, positioned where WG has mentioned, however, I believe that one is in the head-light circuit! Could be wrong?

The item in the picture comes up a lot! I always forget what it is called. I think it is called "Hazard switch regulator". It is in the blinker circuit and is required for those (useless) hazards lights. It is positioned near the cylindrical blinker relay unit at the control panel.

I will do more home work and post it so other KZ's don't make the same error. I should not take peoples advice with out confirmation. so I am out $20 US. Cheap lesson I guess. Thanks for your support and info.

Here is a picture of a ballast resistor on a 1979 kz1000. It's used with 2.2 ohm coils.

Thanks Tony... that is the resistor bridge I mentioned. I did find one the other day in a box of electronic junk...

I've never really understood why Kawasaki put those resistors on the late 70's KZ1000's - I suspect Kawasaki had a bunch of mismatched parts to use up and felt the 1.5 ohm resistor was the cheapest way of using up mismatched coils.

Using the resistor also puts less stress on the ignition module. Maybe Kaw was having reliability issues with the first generation electronic ignitions.

Good Day All, The info I am being told is that it is for coils in order to keep a positive amount of volts and not for electronic Ign. Well I thank all for their info and support. I do not beleave I need this Resistor for my 1977 KZ 1000A. My electrical was fried when I got this ride so other than a wire diagram and a manual for ref, I will follow the diagram and see what is what.

Dogpound, you showed a picture at message three of this thread. I took it, that it was this item you wanted identified. This is not the item others are talking about! Did you mislead me or am I just DumB?

It's all interesting stuff, however, I would hate anyone to fit that item thinking it was related to coils!
